Current mood: betrayed

So it is finally here. MTV is now officially acknowledging their focus is not on music. Today they have removed the "Music Television" from the bottom of their logo.... Honestly they have not deserved it since about 1998 so who really is shocked by this at all.

I for one do not expect any uproar or controversy but somewhere in the back of my mind I am disappointed slightly. A part of me remembers the MTV of yore and longs for a modern day yo MTV raps or Headbangers Ball. I guess it is just time for me to let it go. Reality Television is systematically spread from MTV itself, like cancer to infect the entertainment world with its scripted watered down representations of "real" life. I guess video killed the radio star then shot itself in the face with Kurt Cobain's shot gun.

Does any one else remember remote control? you people are like me.... you saw MTV rise up from something that looked like a local access cable network to this over-bloated evil corporate behemoth that we all loath.

In the early days we would expect to see full length videos. The artist name and album in that familiar white text on the bottom right of the screen, TWICE at the beginning and again at the end of a song. MTV broke many of my teenage idols out of obscurity. I remember quick little MTV BUZZ ad spots featuring the smashing pumpkins along side acts like Nirvana or the Lemonheads. The singles were great the albums momentous. Life changing for me at the time, it was truly beautiful our culture was alive with vibrant and exciting new original music. For an instant.

Soon the vampires and leeches would creep in and begin to milk more and more of the LIFE from our culture. More and more acts seemed to be a watered down version of something from a year before. enter the goo goo dolls enter puff daddy enter blink 182 enter the return of the boy band. enter Nickelback

This corporate influenced process would continue until the point where MTV was no longer a valid entity to the music community. THEY took it from US..... they ruined it they killed it and replaced it with something evil. FUCK YOU MTV you do not deserve to call yourself music television... so go ahead and drop the "music television" from your logo... you dropped the music from your netwrok right after you came up with the "Real World".

MTV has not been about music since god knows when. This is a symptom of a much larger problem.... Those of us who know what it used to be are very angry. and after the anger fades nothing is left but sadness. Our culture is dying....... it is a very very sad thing.

help me internet-kanobi your my only hope.

shout out to really bad car stereos

yeah!

When I was going through my formative teen years back in the late 1990's, it seemed kids in my generation were discovering Bass for the first time. It was so new and exciting!! We used to fuck around with classic rock and reggae music, and when friends from different clicks got together to smoke and drive around in circles, inevitably some one pulled out some bizzare music selection that would make the rest of us cringe or laugh."crack up that bass on dark side of the moon!! shit, I never heard that before siiiiick" ......."Metalica has ill bass dude!"

good times. Bass was so hip back then it seemed for some people to be the only essential part of thier sound system.... " just add the subs to my shitty ford escort factory speakers... yeah that will sound doooope!" ...no it did not.. you thought you were impressing all the ladies when you pulled into the high school parking lot, instead you look like a tool and blaring the latest puff daddy and Ma$e record.. Also all that bass is starting to piss off your neighbors... cash money yo'!!

ahh epic nostalgic 90's FAIL..

my ears hurt just remembering those lousy ass systems.
